Toronto-based doom merchants WITCHROT team up with New Noise Magazine to present their soulful new sonic ritual “Possession Deepens”, taken from their upcoming album “Soul Cellar” on Fuzzed and Buzzed Records and Majestic Mountain Records.
About the song, the band says: “The song is about being attached to your beliefs without the humility or willingness to learn any alternative. Not only will people dissolve relationships over some bogus lie they just learned a week ago, but they become consumed by it. Possessed till it devours them and brings them and others to a hell that they are satisfied with. Like an ouroboros fuelled on anger, perpetually hungry and never satiated.”
Leaping forward in their songwriting thanks to new dynamics within the band, Witchrot‘s new album “Soul Cellar” is a soul-stirring, multi-faceted ritual that will either lead you to join their cult or send you to your demise. Riffs are so hefty and vicious they could chop off heads, until they artfully embrace soaring psych-blues greatness. Leading the ceremony, Lea Reto’s head-spinning vocals effortlessly sail from smooth, jazzy croons to dramatic outbursts, conveying an unseen sense of hopelessness. Creeping and crawling under your skin, their insane grooves and eerie keys will haunt you for days. Don’t miss their previous single and video for Throat Cutter!

Emerging from Toronto’s underground in 2018, WITCHROT has captivated audiences with their heartfelt fusion of doom metal, fuzzed-out psychedelia and haunting shoegaze. Founded by vocalist Lea Reto and guitarist Peter Turik, the quintet crafts hypnotic soundscapes where hazy vocals intertwine with massive waves of distortion, sludge and sleaze. Recently joined by keyboardist Patrick Sherrard, WITCHROT continues to evolve while staying true to their roots. Their atmospheric melodies and crushing heaviness push genre boundaries, creating a sound that lingers like an echo in the abyss.
WITCHROT‘s new album “Soul Cellar” sees the band pushing their creative boundaries by injecting more melody and fine touches of keyboards and developing atmospheres while staying true to their ethereal, doom-infused roots. “Soul Cellar” reflects the lives of its creators, delving into themes of hopelessness, betrayal, paranoia, and societal frustration. Deemed as “ dark, deep, and heavy doom metal to break your neck to” by Metalsucks, their haunting, hopelessness-filled soundscapes invite listeners to immerse themselves in the raw emotion and sonic depth they have become known for.
“Soul Cellar” was recorded at Simcoe Mechanical by Nixon Boyd and Palace Sound by Dylan Frankland. Mixed by Dylan Frankland and mastered by Tony Reed at Heavy Head Recording Co. Album art by ZZ Corpse.
