Award-winning vocalist Doris Brendel has released the fourth video in the lead-up to her upcoming Blues album Big Blue Sky, due out on 21st April 2025. This time, the spotlight falls on the sultry and soulful track ‘Under the Covers’—but with a surprising and imaginative twist.
The video is a fully animated adventure that follows a bed with a life of its own. As the music plays, the bed slips away from its sleepy occupant and sets off on a whimsical journey through forests, highways, rooftops, and dreamlike cityscapes. From gentle glides to full-speed mischief, the visuals add a playful and unexpected layer to the track’s emotional pull.
Musically, Under the Covers is a classic blues ballad, rich in melody and mood, with Brendel’s distinctive husky vocals at the heart of it all. It’s a track that balances tenderness with just the right touch of humour—true to the eclectic style that has made her work so widely praised.
The video follows previous singles Red Letter Blues, Slow WiFi Weekend, and Satin Row, all part of Big Blue Sky—an album that marks Brendel’s first full dive into the Blues genre, in collaboration with long-time producer and guitarist Lee Dunham.
