Boston post-metal force JUNIUS are back—and they’re making it count

Posted-onApril 8, 2026April 8, 2026By lineBylineRo

After nearly a decade of silence, the band return on June 26th with a brand new studio album, Sotera, once again unleashed through Prosthetic Records.

Vocalist and guitarist Joseph E. Martinez pulls back the curtain on this long-awaited opus, diving into the powerful Greek mythology that fuels its title and themes—hinting at something as epic and immersive as the wait has been long.

“The word Sotera is the feminine form of savior or protector in Greek, and it perfectly captured what the album was circling around. This album is a musical invocation that explores the divine feminine as a force of transformation and balance. Medea stands at the threshold. In Sotera we’re calling upon Hekate, her mother, to guide us in her resurrection. The Oracle as a loving but ignored prophet. Lucifera appears as the punished light-bringer. The Initiatrix is the one who begins the rite.”

Leading the charge is “Initiatrix,” unveiled as the album’s first single—and it doesn’t just arrive, it hits with intent. Dropped alongside a striking music video directed by Joseph E. Martinez himself, the track sets the tone for what’s to come.

Martinez sheds light on the song’s significance and why it was chosen to introduce Sotera—offering a glimpse into the depth, power, and vision driving Junius’ long-awaited return.

“Initiatrix‘ distills the album into 3 minutes and 23 seconds, and it captures the heart of the record. “It’s about willingly stepping into a ritualistic transformation, asking to be changed and accepting the consequences of that choice.”

“Sotera” track listing:

01 – “Disciple“
02 – “The Oracle“
03 – “Summon Her“
04 – “Initiatrix“
05 – “Darkwater“
06 – “Serpent“
07 – “Lucifera“
08 – “Scythian“
