British Blues Icon, often referred to as “Father of British Blues”, John Mayall OBE has passed away peacefully at 90 years old, surrounded by his loved ones. His family released a statement announcing his death saying the following:

An inspiration for a vast amount of Blues legends including Eric Clapton, John McVie, Mick Fleetwood and many others as tributes start to pour out including Walter Trout who shared a photo from Mayall’s 90th Birthday celebration last year along with words: “I had no idea, it would be one of the last times I’d see him. As usual, he was funny, generous, and kind. He is and will always be my musical mentor, my greatest supporter, and an incredible talent. We just lost a giant. I loved him like a father, and I always will.

Mick Jagger also commented on the passing of Mayall saying: “So sad to hear of John Mayall’s passing. He was a great pioneer of British blues and had a wonderful eye for talented young musicians, including Mick Taylor – who he recommended to me after Brian Jones died – ushering in a new era for the Stones.
