Doris Brendel has released a very disturbing new video from her forthcoming solo project – Getting Angry Again
‘Getting Angry Again’ is a track from forthcoming album ‘Dog Eat Dog World’ which marks Doris Brendel’s 6th home recorded ‘in-between’ album in the last 5 years, all of which are side projects to Brendel and Dunham’s more serious band productions and whose most recent album ‘Pigs Might Fly’ received rave reviews. The daughter of famed classical pianist Alfred Brendel, Doris’ distinctive vocals were the driving force behind 1990s alt-rockers The Violet Hour, who were signed to Sony when they released their now revered, classic album ‘The Fire Sermon’ in 1991.
Winner of the 2024 HRH ‘Prog Angel’ Award and having become a firm fixture in the Rock and Prog scene, Brendel’s ‘in-between’ albums are a complete diversion from her regular fare and ‘expect the unexpected’ has never been more relevant. The projects started out ‘acoustically’ but this has become misleading. Though acoustic guitars are heavily featured, Chris Tortoioli’s production and additional instrumentation brings it close to band territory at times.
The Video for ‘Getting Angry Again’ aims to depict the feelings and destructive effects of uncontrolled anger, whether within families or in society at large. People shouting but not listening. Often stoked by social media and individuals with personal agendas, hatred can spill over to the point where people are willing to set fire to buildings containing families and children. People turning into monsters. Understandably there is a TRIGGER WARNING on this video. It’s an uncomfortable watch. But Brendel has never shied away from confronting difficult topics.
The video itself has been cobbled together with AI generated footage – something Brendel has been practicing for a while. In fact she considers herself a bit of a pioneer when it comes to AI programmes and their capabilities. ‘’Shunning AI or trying to pretend it doesn’t exist changes nothing. So you might as well know what it can do.’’, is Brendel’s attitude on the subject. She admits to making the footage as unpleasant as possible by making rooms messy and dirty to enhance the feeling of unease. ‘’Like many people, I had an abusive upbringing, so I find emotional loss of control frankly terrifying and that’s what I have attempted to evoke.’’
The album is available for pre-order on CD. There are also limited edition CD Presentation Boxes whilst stocks last. This album is only available on her website https://dorisbrendel.com/store/sort/new View the Video Here https://youtu.be/dcwRqlKxO5o?si=Rb2gc0LgRgntwDoA
