Austrian industrial grunge rockers, Voltwechsel recently completed a 3 date tour of the U.K. It was their first time in the U.K and they were here with British Alt-metal power trio WEBB.
The final gig of this quick tour was at The Exchange Basement in Bristol. Unfortunately no one told Bristol it was happening so only a handful of lucky people were there to experience the power that Voltwechsel bring to the party.
Lead singer and guitarist Patrick made light of the situation claiming “It’s like playing a rock show in your living room”. Patrick didn’t hold back and demonstrated his skill as a frontman by motivating the small audience to make a whole lot of noise.
The band are promoting their album “Frei Und Doch Gefangen” which I would definitely recommend having a listen to, even if you don’t understand the Austrian lyrics. The songs and music hold their own in any language.
Patrick’s vocal and overlaid guitar sound deliver a melodic groove that is well complemented by the pulsating bass lines provided by Gernot.
The band’s sound is accented by the chest thumping power attack of drummer Nino whose sound, on occasion, is almost punk inspired. This coupled with Gernot’s bass give depth and substance to their sound.
Highlight tracks from their set include “Mein Altes Ich” and “Mutter” plus my personal favourite of the album and evening “Nuklear”.
Voltwechsel have now returned to Austria but hopefully they will return to the U.K. When they do, can I recommend that you go check them out they will give you a gig to remember.
